With the immediate departure of Dr. Sicotte to the Dean’s office, Dr. Dawson has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Head until a new Head is appointed.

Dr. Dawson arrived at the University of Calgary in 2001 from the University of Winnipeg, at which time he took up a position in the former Department of Archaeology. He has conducted fieldwork in the Canadian Arctic for over two decades and is a research associate in the Arctic Institute of North America. Dr. Dawson’s research focuses on the digital preservation of heritage at risk in Alberta and the Canadian Arctic. He collaborates closely with colleagues in Geomatics Engineering, Art and EVDS. In addition to numerous articles and book chapters, Dawson and his research group have recently completed an open access digital heritage archive with Library and Cultural Resources at the Taylor Family Digital Library that contains interactive 3D models and historic overviews of heritage sites in Alberta, and serves as an online repository for digital heritage data. Dr. Dawson has received funding for his research through SSHRC, Parks Canada and the Alberta Government.

Dr. Dawson will step down as Graduate Program Director and Dr. Sabrina Peric has kindly agreed to take over this position in the department.
