Statuary

Some of the best known artifacts from pre-Columbian Nicaragua are monumental sculptures. Many of these were found on islands in the lakes, such as Ometepe Island and Zapatera Island. Ephraim Squier was one of the first western scholars to investigate these. More recently Karen Bruhns, Rigoberto Navarro, and Alex Geurds have studied the statues.
