ANTH 467 - Soldiering: Perspectives on Military Life - Fall 2013

An anthropological approach to soldiering in the aftermath of the Second World War. Questions the idea of a universal soldier, soldiers' shifting relationship to the nation-state, the rise of privatized warfare and the creation of global military communities. Special attention will be paid to the rise of humanitarian military regimes, military occupation, new techologies of warfare and non-human soldiers.
This course may not be repeated for credit.
