Perceptions of business ownership can often be quite romanticised. Common images include pushing wheelbarrows full of money to the bank, working without pants and taking long contemplative walks to ponder the universe. Barely 30% of these perceptions are accurate. Drawing from personal experience, I will discuss some of the realities of starting and operating an archaeological consulting firm. Emphasis will be placed on highlighting the personal experience of business ownership and reflecting upon both the positive elements and challenges entailed.
