Dr. Dan Meyer (Lifeways of Canada Limited)

In conjunction with Alberta Parks plans to repair damage along the banks of the Bow River and Fish Creek sustained during the 2013 floods of southern Alberta, Lifeways of Canada Limited was hired to investigate some known Precontact archaeological sites before construction work commenced. This work revealed the presence of a buried tipi ring at site EfPm-37, which was mitigated in two stages during the spring and fall of 2015. Under almost a meter of overbank flood deposits, the occupation of this feature was found to be about two thousand years old. This presentation will highlight the results of the program and some of the Province's efforts to mitigate the effects of the 2013 floods to significant historical resources.
